Books, books, books

I thought it would be fun to share what books we are reading at the moment. I love to read, but don't get a lot of time to do so - usually a few pages here and there through the day. So it's great to find really really good books to read during that precious time. Often word-of-mouth is the best way, so let's share!

Right now I'm reading............

* The Five Love Languages of Children by Chapman and Campbell (this is fantastic- couldn't recommend it highly enough)

* How to Build Confidence in Your Child by Dr James Dobson (one of his older books, but still a good read- a great section on thoughful discipline)

* The Power of a Positive Mum by Karol Ladd (somehow this one keeps finding it's way to the bottom of my pile, but every time I pick it up again, I remember how good it is! A great reminder to keep things positive in the home)

And just for me....

* The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho (a classic, given to me by a friend; a great read, hard to put down!! Can't wait to see how it all ends)

* I'm re-reading The Okinawa Way (fascinating study into the lives of Okinawans, the population with the most number of people who live healthily over 100yrs in the world)

I'm also re-reading The Charlotte Mason Companion by Karen Andreola (one of my most favourite books re: learning in the home/ raising a family), and working through the book of Matthew for my KYB Bible Study group.

So much to read, so little time............ :)

SO, what are you reading?

We just finished Matthew last term for KYB!! We've now started Joshua which is really interesting. I'm finding the Joshua questions easier to answer than the Matt - I would sit with a bible commentry next to me as I did the study! What do you think?
All the rest of your books sound interesting. I haven't read any of them (although I've heard a lot about the love languages book). I'm interested in the Charlotte Mason - please share if it's worth reading - is it about home schooling? - I've just heard her name mentioned on homeschooling blogs! I love reading, but only have one book currently on the go which is about farming (boring!). Have a nice day!

Hey voracious reader!
Glad you are enjoying the Alchemist! I read it on my honeymoon and couldn't put it down either, despite the distractions of Phuket! I was supposed to have read "The Tenth Circle" by Jodi Picoult for a book club I'm in - but it didn't happen. I can't remember the last time I read a book unfortunately - which wasn't a text book!
p.s. I wouldn't recommend the Jodi Picoult book either from the discussions the book club members had the other night!

Thank you for sharing Saminda about the books you are reading. I don't class myself as a big reader at the best of times, so most of the books I read have to do with family or faith so here are three books I am working my way through...

"Building The Christian Family You Never Had" by Mary E. Muth, I have really enjoyed reading and re-reading this book about how I am the first generation in my family to embrace a relationship with Christ and what I can do to help my children embrace the faith.

"Parenting In The Pews" by Robbie Castleman. Although this book was published over 10 years ago I have found it to be such an insight into guiding children from toddlers to teenagers into the joy of Worship. The ideas she presents as she shares about what she has taught her children, it compels me to teach Nathaniel the joy of worshipping our Lord and Saviour.

And finally,
"Step into the Bible" by Ruth Graham, this would have to be the best family devotional book I have ever seen. There is 100 very simple bible stories with questions and a memory verse. The colours and the pictures are extraordinary. It is a must for every family!

Hello fellow bookworm!
The last novel I read was your Liz Curtis Higgs book "Bookends"; as per usual, I `escaped' for 12 hours one night on the holidays!
I'm now reading Dutch Sheets' modern-day classic "Intercessory Prayer:How God Can Use Your Prayers to Move Heaven and Earth"- it's exhilarating and is causing me to be more confident:)
I'm also reading a book by Maryborough's Amanda Waterson which shows how to harness tweens and teens for children's ministry through mentoring and leadership; I'm rereading a Willowcreek resource called "Making Children's Ministry the Best Hour of Every Kid's Week" by Sue Miller with David Staal - both really highly recommended!!
However, today being Monday means the most print that has passed my eyes has been in the genre of recipes as I plan our week of meals and baking, as well as pour over the latest donna hay kids' issue:) - starting to plan King Daddy Day and Declan's birthday for next month. It's midnight and I'm still waiting for a Cherry Ripe mud cake to cool (700g chocolate!!375g butter!!400ml coconut milk!! 2 king size cherry ripes....need I say more!I'll show you tomorrow!I mean later today:) I hope you're having a lovely sleep! Bon nuit!

This is a great idea for a post! Do you mind if I steal it? I promise I'll link back!

I'm going to see if my library has "The Alchemist." It sounds like something I would like.

I sent Saraya's stickers and letter today. The postmaster said she should get it in about a week.

I love the name you choose for your house, by the way!
