In Which "Sparkle" Transforms Herself

Shortly after breakfast we heard a cry of "Mama! There is a moth in Sparkle's container!"
You see, "Sparkle" was a caterpillar Saraya had been observing some weeks back - and who had made herself a nice cocoon inside a red Hibiscus flower. I took a peek and sure enough - there was a moth! And a whole lot of freshly laid yellow eggs too.

As soon as Saraya realised that the moth was indeed Sparkle, there was great excitement in the house! She was quick to draw her into her Nature Notebook

before taking her outside to let her go.

Checking out the little hole through which she emerged! Amazing.
The eggs will be staying covered, but we'll keep them for awhile to see them hatch.

After formal lessons this morning, the children have engaged in lots of creative play. Toy Library costumes were pulled out again.

Here is my beautiful Red Riding Hood!

See the rain teeming down behind her? Yes, it's still raining!! Lots and lots of rain. Saraya took her basket up to the garden this morning and came back with 7 capsicums and 1 bean. :) The cucumber has grown some more but we're leaving it for now! It's still prickly.

We listened to Beatrix Potter stories on audio CD, read a chapter of Little Men, and then prepared for rest time.

I had to take a photo of Saraya's bed, it just looked so cosy! What a perfect reading space on a rainy day. Yes, she was still Red Riding Hood through rest time. :)

Elijah so often rests like this! Upside down boy. :)

And here is my sleeping toddler. Do you notice he's sleeping??

Yes, the irony of a toddler. I have tried to encourage him to nap for the past 3 days, to no avail. Today I decided to just let him have his bottle in bed, then allow him to get up. It's Friday and Stuart and I like to watch a movie together Friday nights. So Will would go to bed early, and we'd watch our movie. Sounded like a plan to me! But William had other ideas. :)

Oh well, at least I got to blog! The house has been perfectly peaceful but my big two children are up again and cutting / making / creating at the table so I'd better go! Time to wake my littlest to avoid a super-late night for him. And to cook this recipe put up by Sarah last week. Thanks Sarah. :)

Happy Friday everyone!!

I love the pictures! My brother would often rest upside down like Elijah. :) Maybe it's a boy thing.
And I'm so glad they got to see a moth transform! It's so magical.

Such sweet pictures. I absolutely love the nature notebook, and what a wonderful lesson, courtesy of Sparkle! I may have to start nature notebooks with the girls. They would love them!

Saraya's picture looks just like Sparkle in real life. What a lovely thing to learn about.
And a book and a cozy bed on a rain day sounds like heaven.
