Easter Trip to the Animal Farm

Our family Christmas Gift from my parents last year was 2 nights at a beautiful farm in the mountains. We claimed it this Easter break.

It rained and rained and rained........ did I mention it rained?
But we were (fairly) prepared with umbrellas, gum boots and jumpers, and we still ventured out of doors to explore and enjoy the land and the animals.

The mist in the valley lingered day and night.

There were endless cups of tea and coffee (it was cold...), chocolate to share and a nice bottle of red wine for me. Warm socks, a fireplace, and feet up on the coffee table.

A lovely Easter break.

New Life

Well, you know spring has sprung when there is new life all around you.

This baby foal (the little brown one on the left) was born just a few days ago and is possibly the cutest thing I have ever seen. He frolics and plays, he runs, he skips..... he makes us smile. :D He belongs to the cream and brown pony pictured with him. They, plus two other ponies and a big brown horse, live in the paddock behind us.

And there are 8 baby ducklings to a mummy and daddy duck here on our land too. They are a little harder to capture on film as they shy away from me, but I'll try. :)

New Babies

We have new babies on the farm today, two beautiful little kittens!

Adopted from the Refuge Centre, cuddly, adorable, with such sweet personalities, they are very very welcome additions to our family!

Saraya chose and named 'Molly', the tabby, and Elijah chose and named 'Slinky Malinki', the soft little black one. They are sisters, 8 weeks old.

I know what having these little girls means to the children, and Stuart and I are pretty chuffed as well. :D

Welcome, Molly and Slinky, we love you already!!!

Our chicks arrive!

With names such as "Alicia" and "Sally", these chicks are bound to be girly girls!  They are soft and fluffy, and oh SO cute.

Someone said recently, "They'll be tame so long as they get plenty of handling in the early weeks."   Hmmmm.  If that's true, these will be the tamest chickens in town.  :)

Editor's update..............  We had a big naming discussion at the breakfast table this morning, and we all decided to name the chicks after flowers.  "Alicia" and "Sally" have been replaced by "Rose" (Elijah's) and "Tulip" (Saraya's); Stuart decided on "Iris" and mine is "Jasmine".  We cast a vote for Will's and came up with "Lavender".   So, we don't really know which is which as they're all very similar, but at least they are named. :)  Doing well; survived the first night!!
