More on the Flood

The last 24 hours have been full of the flood for us. Yesterday I posted photographs we took while checking out the water levels in town. Last night we had heavy rain and continuous rumbling thunder and lightening all night long. None of us slept well and we were so tired this morning!

The rain has stopped here now, but continues to fall heavily on the city an hour south of us, right into the catchment of the Mary River. All the rain collecting there will flow downstream and therefore the water levels here will rise further over the next 48 hours.

Today we took another drive, and also went to the corner store to stock up in case our main road to town gets cut (unlikely, but I'd rather be safe than sorry!).

Looking down towards Woolworths on the right. As you can see, the water has nearly risen to the height of the street signs and lower traffic light!

Woolworths (grocery store) is that brick building behind the trees.

The little brick building here is our town's Toy Library! :(

The blue here is the sand banking the council workers are trying to erect to prevent the CBD from flooding.

And here we found about 30 mobile homes lined up along a street out of the water, all evacuated from the caravan park yesterday morning. The caravan park is now completely underwater.

Several readers have inquired as to whether we are still living in our home on land - yes, we are. We have had such a wet summer, I just don't think anyone has moving / buying real estate on their minds! We have had 1 inspection since we listed our home. At least we are high and dry here. We won't be affected by the floods. We'll see what happens once everything dries out again.

I'll keep you posted.

What a crazy summer this has been! Flooding affecting 60% of QLD is just incredible to imagine. While I appreciate the rain, a whole month and a half worth of it is starting to take its toll on everyone I think! Poor poeple affected by floods! Hope you guys continue to keep dry at your place!

Hi ya Min, Great pics. What a strange thing to be happening. We see occurrences like this happen elsewhere not on our front doorstep. It's beautiful to see the town chatting on f/b and knowing that that a little good will come from such devastation. I'm imagining that our community will tie itself a little closer together after this. I can't wait to get stuck into the clean up with my boys and L is looking forward to it as well.

Stay safe and dry. xo

Great pics Min. Hopefully the rain will ease soon and the town will go back to it's normally quiet little self. Vic xx

Glad you are remaining high and dry. Please promise me you'll be careful when driving through flooded streets. It only takes 1.5 to 2 feet of moving water to move your car from the roadway.

Prays for the Mary area. Glad the Toy Library had the forethought to move items out prior to the flood.

We had a whole heap of rain last night and this morning - the same rain band as yours.
Thanks for the update, praying it goes down quickly and people stay safe.
