Tonight after dance class I drove up to Hervey Bay for a special seminar Frances and David were running (see post below; I can call them by their Christian names now, I spent much of the day with them!). It was a special adult's class all about writing and illustrating picture books. I have carried around in my mind many ideas for story books (I adore children's books and read my children copious quantities of them) for years. It was such a thrill and a privilege to listen to this talented and experienced pair share all their knowledge with us! And despite their honesty regarding how difficult it can be to break into the picture book industry, I feel more inspired than ever to get some of my ideas on paper. :) My head is literally buzzing.
I bought another of their books tonight too. This one -
If you've ever wanted a book to teach children about books, to inspire them to read, to get them comfortable with handling and understanding and reading and loving books......... this is the one! Buy it! Give it to a child you love and get our children reading! It is so important and so easy with SO many great books at our disposal. I know what I'll be dreaming about tonight. ;) After I go have a shower, finalise homeschool plans for tomorrow and unpack the groceries. On second thoughts, how about I unpack the groceries in the morning? What's that? You think I should ignore them 'til morning? Yep, okay, I'll do it. But only because you said so.
One more thing, just one tiny thing to share. Stuart and I did a lift in dance today. As in he lifted me and I backflipped over his shoulder and landed (semi-gracefully?) on my feet. And I didn't break anything. And he didn't drop me, either time we practiced it! Not bad for a 29 year old, eh?! All this creativity pumping through my veins tonight, I don't know how I'll ever sleep!!!

hehehe 10.30pm did you say?! Sounds a brilliant idea to create a children's book and if your blog is anything to go by Min, you are quite the natural writer! Plus a lift n' flip (it's how we in the industry say it ;-) no less in dance classes...is there no end to your talents!
I wish I could see you and Stu dancing - I would love that!
What a lovely blog you have. (I found you from Sally Clarkson's blog.)
I like your blog name too. Sounds so cozy!
Oooh! We've read this book several times. The kids love it! I am so excited to know they are Australian writers and that you got to spend time with them.
And you are so clever dancing. What style is it?
